Preliminary Findings of the DAYAN Project Were Presented at EACME 2025
Preliminary findings from the qualitative phase of the DAYAN research project carried out under the TÜBİTAK 3005 program were presented to the international academic community at the annual congress of the European Association of Centres of Medical Ethics (EACME), held in Zurich in 2025.
In the presentation titled “Moral Injury and Moral Resilience among Healthcare Workers in the Aftermath of 2023 Earthquakes in Türkiye: Navigating Systemic Challenges and Strengthening Moral Competencies,” delivered by Fatih Bilgili and colleagues, the project was introduced and findings regarding the current stage of the research were shared.
Within the presentation, quantitative and qualitative data obtained within the framework of the mixed-method research design were evaluated together. Based on survey data from more than 400 healthcare workers and data obtained from in-depth interviews, the relationships between moral injury and moral resilience were discussed. In particular, themes such as distrust toward institutional structures among healthcare workers, the importance of team solidarity, and hopelessness regarding systemic problems were among the prominent findings.
By opening the preliminary findings obtained from the field to discussion on an international platform, this presentation made an important contribution to the global literature on disaster ethics and the experiences of healthcare workers.
